Why a washer stops spinning
A washer may refuse to spin because water has not drained, the load is unbalanced, the door lock is not confirming safely, or the drive system cannot reach the required speed. A failed spin cycle does not automatically mean the motor needs replacement.
Start with drainage and load balance
Check whether water remains in the drum. A blocked filter, restricted drain hose or weak pump can stop the machine before the spin stage. Redistribute a heavy or uneven load and run the recommended cycle only if there is no electrical or leak hazard.
Door lock, belt, motor and sensors
If drainage is normal, diagnosis can move to the door-lock circuit, belt or drive system, motor, speed sensor, wiring and control board. Error codes are useful clues but should be confirmed with inspection.
When to stop using the machine
Switch the washer off if you smell burning, see sparks, notice water near electrical parts or the breaker trips repeatedly. Do not bypass safety locks.

Observe the transition into spin
Many machines drain, redistribute the load and perform several slow drum movements before accelerating. Note whether the drum turns slowly, the timer pauses, or an error appears. This distinguishes a balancing delay from a drive or control fault.
Checks depend on washer design
